Pastor Jack Hawkins & Family

Canyon Springs Staff

Jack Hawkins – Pastor
Jack is the founding pastor of Canyon Springs and has been in ministry for over 25 years. Jack is a popular speaker who has had the privilege of speaking to thousands of people yearly at churches, camps and conferences.  He has a passion for communicating the word of God in a way that is creative, powerful and relevant to every day living. Jack is father to three beautiful children, and husband to a beautiful wife, which explains the beautiful children.

Craig Deane – Associate Pastor
Craig has been in ministry for nearly 25 years. Craig spent 10 years of his life on the national speaking team of HomeWord Family Ministry which allowed him to travel throughout the United States, Central Europe and Australia helping youth leaders, parents and students. Craig also spent 10 years of his ministry doing family based ministry in La Habra and El Cajon. He joined the staff of Canyon Springs in August of 2003 as our Associate Pastor. Craig has a bachelor degree in Psychology and Sociology from Cal State Fullerton and a Master of Divinity from Fuller Seminary. Craig is married to his wife Kathleen, and has two beautiful children, Hunter and Harrison.

Jill Ippolito – Children’s Director
While Jill's passion for children is only exceeded by her love of chocolate, Canyon Springs is proud to have her serve as the Children's Director. After graduating from Westmont College with a degree in elementary education, Jill spent five years teaching elementary school in San Diego County. As the mother of three daughters, Jill strives to live a balanced life of wife, mother, children's director, neighbor, friend and consumer of all things chocolate.

Kathy Pavey – Children’s Sunday School Director
Kathy was raised in Arizona and attended ASU.   She moved to San Diego 16 years ago.  Yes, she is a “Zonie”.  Kathy met her husband in San Diego and they have a son in third grade.  They began attending Canyon Springs six years ago on the suggestion of their son who was two at the time. After retiring from a long career in Commercial Real Estate, Kathy joined the Canyon Springs staff in October of 2005 as the Sunday School Coordinator.   It has always been a dream of Kathy’s to work with children in some capacity.  Kathy enjoys RV traveling, hiking, being a room mom and volunteering for anything (well almost!)  It is an on-going goal of Kathy’s to continue implementing new and exciting programs that will attract children and volunteers to Sunday school.

Kirsten Loy - Youth Director
Kirsten loves teenagers!  Kirsten spent 14 years as a junior high teacher and seven years as Area Director for Young Life, an outreach ministry for teens in public schools.  She is dedicated to the kids, teens and families in the Canyon Springs community and desires to make OASIS (our youth ministry program) a safe haven where teens can grow together and grow in their relationship with Jesus.  When she isn’t on the soccer or baseball fields cheering for her sons, Noah and Micah-- she enjoys reading, hiking, entertaining, and traveling any place tropical with her husband, kids and friends.

Matt Marbrey – Assistant Youth Director
Matt got his start in youth ministry with Young Life.  After leading a young life group at a middle school in Mira Mesa for two years, he took a senior leadership role on the new Young Life team at Scripps Ranch High School.  Since then, he has developed close relationships with the youth in the area, which has lead to his Assistant Youth Director position here at Canyon Springs. Matt is finishing up college at Cal State San Marcos, and will have a Bachelor's Degree in Criminology and Justice Studies in May of 2008. Matt, (nicknamed "Pastor Boogie" by many of the kids) loves music, loves to dance, and loves working with the youth at Canyon Springs.

Burt Brion – Music Director
Burt has been a Christian keyboard Jazz artist for the past 14 years in San Diego. During that time he has played both Christian and Secular venues as a Singer/Songwriter/Keyboardist and has led worship for several large San Diego congregations before becoming Canyon Springs main man. Burt's keyboard and vocal arrangements give the worship he leads a "contemporary jazz flavor" and he has also brought with him a talented group of professional musicians and singers, all with impressive resumes.

Kim O’Neal – Office Manager
Kim grew up in Orange County, started college at 17, met her future husband, Ryan, on a blind date, and 22 years and 3 teens later, found her way to Canyon Springs Church. Kim has a BA in Accounting and Finance from Cal State Fullerton, as well as a teaching credential from UCLA. Though a relatively quiet person, you might have met Kim while involved in one of several Canyon Springs ministries, such as Women's Bible Study, serving on the Team Katrina, or during the Kingdom Assignment. But most likely you will find her with a cup of coffee in one hand and post-its in the other. Kim and her family have been members of Canyon Springs since 1999, and has been the Accountant for the past 8 years while most recently also acting as the Office Manager. Her motivation is doing her part to help Canyon Springs serve Christ and spread His word in the most effective way possible.
