Chollas Mead Swim Drive

We are excited to partner with Caroline Grondin and San Diego Rescue Mission in an upcoming ministry event. We will help support 83 children at Chollas Mead Community Elementary School who are learning to swim but need a few things!

Background On Chollas Mead Community School

Community schools like Chollas Mead represent the whole-child, whole-school evidence-based model for achieving equitable outcomes for school improvement. In the case of Chollas Mead Community School, over 10% of the families are unhoused or classified as homeless. There is a strong possibility this number is higher, as many families have a stigma with the word homeless, so they prefer not to say anything other than to be categorized. The space at Chollas Mead is so impactful. Many families come to the community school and can grab items from the pantry on-site or ask for services or help and not feel like they are being categorized or embarrassed about their season of homelessness. Within the Chollas Mead Community School, 93% of the families live below the poverty line.

Swim Lessons for 3rd Graders

Chollas Mead is honored to be a grant recipient from the Prevent Drowning Foundation of San Diego. This grant will cover eight swim lessons for all third-grade students. This will be the first time Chollas Mead students have participated in swim lessons during the school day. The swim lessons aim to teach water safety skills to help make the children safer in and around the water. Students will begin lessons on May 3rd, 2024, and go twice a week! Most 3rd grade students have never had formal swim lessons and do not know how to swim.

Donations of Swim Supplies

Our missions ministry is hosting a donation drive for swim supplies for the children of Chollas Mead Community School. Our church compassion bin will collect the items needed – goggles, rash guards, swim trunks, one-piece bathing suits, etc. We will collect through April 26, 2024!
