This week was FAVORITE THINGS Night! The clubbers were able to bring one of their favorite things to Awana (it just couldn’t be alive or edible!). We had stuffed animals, sports items, electronic devices, places and many others!

Our emoji for the week was….

Cool dude! We talked about how people wear sunglasses to keep the sun out of their eyes – but they also wear them to “be cool.” Sometimes when we try to be cool, we end up embarrassing ourselves. Ms. Betsy told a story about a man who got a new job and was trying to be cool, but then it backfired on him! See if your clubber remembers the story. Our Bible story was from the book of Esther. Haman was a helper to King Xerxes and did not like this other guy named Mordecai, who was a Jew. There was a plan hatching by two of the king’s guards whereby they were planning to kill the king; Mordecai uncovered the plan and therefore saved the king’s life. King Xerxes wanted to do something to honor Mordecai for this so he asked Haman for suggestions of what he could do. Hamas, though, thought that the king wanted to honor HIM so he came up with some extravagant suggestions. The king loved Haman’s suggestions – and then told him it was Mordecai that he wanted to honor. Haman was devastated and embarrassed. Haman shows us what happens when we only think of ourselves. God wants us to be humble. What does it mean to be humble? Putting others before ourselves, letting others take a turn before us, being kind and inclusive to everyone and not just our close friends. We looked up Proverbs 16:18 which says, “Pride leads to destruction. A proud attitude brings ruin.” Pride is the opposite of humility; God makes it very clear that he wants us to be humble and not proud. We ended by talking about the most humble person to ever walk the earth – Jesus. He reigned in heaven, with all power at his fingertips – yet he came to earth as a helpless baby and sacrificed his life for us so that we could have a relationship with him and ultimately spend eternity with him in heaven.

Congrats to the GREEN team for being our color winners this week!
