This Week

We are ON for midweeks. We will be at the Cove from 730-9PM talking through the questions we answered on Sunday in our series “IDK.” Want to hear about the questions we answered? See below.

On 10/13 in the evening we are heading down to San Diego Christian College to join other youth groups from around San Diego for a night of worship led by the San Diego Christian Worship band. It is free and dinner is provided. The event starts at 5PM (bbq and hang before worship) and ends around 730PM. We will be coordinating a carpool as well for students that do not drive.

Next Week

We will have midweeks next week!

On the Radar

CITY SEARCH is back! We have our annual Halloween Event, City Search, coming up. The date is October 23rd so make sure your students save the date. This is an epic scavenger hunt around Scripps Ranch AND we have a costume contest.

Winter Camp Dates: February 14-17, 2020.

Summer Camp Houseboats Dates: July 12-17, 2020.

Service Opportunity (still seeking): We are looking for some drivers that would want to help get some of our City Heights friends to the Cove on Wednesdays. We only have 8 Wednesdays left in the year that we are trying to fill. The students you are helping are actually refugees from other countries so it is really hard for them to get around and have made some deep connections at Canyon Springs through our amazing scholarship opportunities for camps. They have been to our camps and have made great connections with kids here and their leaders. We want to continue to help these kids stay in the orbit of Gods Spirit and all the great stuff that is going on at Canyon Springs. If this is tugging on your heart you can sign up HERE to help transport some students. You can sign up to pick up, drop off or both. Click on the link and read over the description on how to sign up and how to get into contact with the ministry supervisor Melissa Drake for address and timing.

Mens Small Group Starting: Mark Hall (a member at our church) is starting an awesome mens small group. This is not for High Schoolers but for adults if there are any guys or dads out there interested. Here is what Mark said…

Hi Chad – good seeing you this past weekend.

I’m taking over the reigns of the men’s group  on Saturdays. Wanted to ask you this question since you know everyone ;-)Any men that you think would be prospective members of a men’s group? I’m open to men of ‘all ages and stages. We’ll be starting our next series Oct 12th or 19th. We’ll meet at 8am on Saturdays for 1 hour. No/minimal prep (watch a video in a series, discuss; optional discussion of Message scripture/notes at the end).

Interested? Email Mark Hall at [email protected]

Winning at Home

We started our new series IDK (I don’t know) where students get to ask questions about faith and God. The one question we got often was “What is God’s stance on LGBTQ?” Luckily, this is a subject I am very passionate about because I believe it is a topic that is very relevant.  In seminary I had the opportunity of writing several papers on it and gleaming the wisdom of some professors that are much further along in their journey than me…

Instead of recapping the whole message you can actually just access a blog I wrote on it last year which was the same message I gave on Sunday by clicking HERE

It was a great Sunday and it is awesome that the students are asking such good questions. We also talked about “Is Jesus mentioned outside of the Bible?” and “Why do I fall into temptation?”

It was a great start to the series and we are looking forward to continuing it this week!

Thanks!

I am praying and rooting for you and your family,

Chad Richards
