A Brief History

Canyon Springs began in 1998 with a simple dream. My wife Jilane and I wanted to start a church that we wouldn’t be embarrassed to go to. Pretty simple really. If you haven’t figured this out already, I’ll spell it out. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. Fortunately, God showed up. Let me walk you through some of the stories God has taken Canyon Springs through to grow us from from the five members of our family to 700 on a Sunday.

When you walk into our auditorium you will experience:

A casual atmosphere that will help you feel relaxed and comfortable.

Upbeat contemporary music that will leave you inspired.

Interesting messages from the Bible that will challenge you, make you laugh, make you think and most importantly, connect you with God.

Each message connects with a topic from everyday life that the average Joe can connect with.

Inspirational video that will help you connect with the message of God for your life.

Each visitor will be welcomed warmly, treated to a cup of Starbucks and a donut hole or two, and thanked for their visit with a starbucks gift card.

A Little More About Us

The pastors at Canyon Springs don’t preach down on people.

They are fellow strugglers who are trying to figure out this spiritual journey just like everyone else.

We look to Jesus for the answers to our common struggles.

Each persons life is made up of stories.

Family stories, sports stories, Christmas stories. We have “speeding ticket” stories. We have “my teacher hated me” stories. We have “I hit myself with a hammer and said words I shouldn’t have” stories. There lots of other stories too. Our stories include drama and comedy, action and adventure. We have hard stories, painful stories, broken relationship stories. We also have a spiritual story. We are all at different places. Some of you are on chapter 27 of your story and still others are just cracking open the book. When you add up all these stories they make us who we are. We are confident and insecure. We are put together and out of control. We are at peace and in pain. We are all imperfect beings with stories that tell the tale of an imperfect past.

When Jesus came to earth, 90% of what Jesus communicated was in the form of stories – either in parables, or miraculous events that became a great story. These stories were written with one purpose. They were written by God to change your story.

No matter where you are at, God wants to enter your story.

He wants to help you write a happily ever after. That’s why he gave us the Bible. When you think of this book, it really is a story book. It’s a true story, but it’s all about story. God’s story of reaching out to us. It’s told in hundreds of stories. Noah and the ark, Jacob’s ladder, Joseph and the coat of many colors, Jonah and the whale, the feeding of the five thousand, Peter walking on water, Paul thrown in prison and Jesus.

Jesus born of a virgin, living a sinless life and dying for our sins. When Jesus came to earth, 90% of what Jesus communicated was in the form of stories – either in parables, or miraculous events that became a great story. These stories were written with one purpose. They were written by God to change your story. To give you hope and peace and joy beyond your imagination. To help you turn the chapter on difficulties you may have faced in your past and help you find your happily ever after.
