We began Club 45 with Club Time. Due to the rain, it was an indoor night! So we packed the room with board games, ping pong, fooz ball and floor puzzles!

Our mixer to kick off our large group time was a Work, Work, Rest activity.  We witnessed your children doing sit-ups, push-ups, jumping jacks, word search, puzzles, coloring, math problems – and even folding laundry! This represented an activity for everyday of the week – and then on Sunday they got to rest.

During Club Teaching time, we learned the Fourth Commandment – Set aside a special day for God.  We talked about how we were created to rest.  What did God do on the seventh day of creating the world?  REST.  He even modeled this for us. We spend our weeks filled with work, school, sports, parties, homework…etc.  We need a dedicated time or day to re-energize our bodies and rekindle our spirits. Sunday is a great day to refuel our hearts.  Going to church, spending time with family, taking a break from schoolwork – how great does that sound?!  We all need to find a day and make it a priority to rest in Jesus.

Next we did a visual with a flashlight and some cups. The flashlight represented our fuel and the light that shines through us with Jesus. The cups were a representation of all the activities throughout the week. As we put each cup on the flashlight, the light got dimmer and dimmer until eventually you could not see it at all.  We need to refuel our hearts with Jesus on our day of rest.

We also read a story about a girl named LaKiesha. Each day she was bombarded with so many situations that she desperately needed to refuel on Sunday. Ms. Chrissy played LaKiesha and she had a cup of water that she took a sip from each day. By the end of the week – and after so much work, activity and stress – she had lost all her fuel and needed to “fill ‘er up” on Sunday.

We finished our time with our small groups where we completed an activity which demonstrated how much we pack in our week.  WOW!  Your kids lead busy lives!  We also brainstormed ways that we could refuel.  Church was #1 on everyone’s list.

Please ask and prompt your child to elaborate further on the Monday night activities.

Our verse for the week is:

Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.  Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord.”  Exodus 20:8-10b

Your child will be rewarded with a sweet treat for each verse committed to memory.  Have them find Ms. Michelle to recite the verse during Club Time.

Our challenge verse is our Club 45 Theme Verse: Psalms 1:1-3 (It’s on the first page of their folders.) If this is memorized there will be a onetime reward for all who take this on.
