Last night was Animal Night – and boy was it a zoo?! :) Really, though, it felt like we WERE at the Canyon Springs Zoo – with zebras, flamingos, kangaroos, butterflies, bunnies, sharks, parrots, pandas, penguins, and lots of kitty cats! Thankfully, the invasion of animals didn’t deter our clubbers from earning lots of awards! We had quite a few that earned their vest/bag/book for the first time – way to go!!

During Counsel Time, Ms. Betsy (dressed as a kangaroo with a baby Joey in her pouch!) announced that this week’s pet highlight was a cat! We talked about how cats are very different from dogs, especially in how they interact with people. While dogs are very loyal and obedient and attached to their owners, cats tend to be quite independent and stubborn (Stubborn meaning: refusal to do/believe/think something; difficult; insistence on always being right.)

Our Bible story focused on three young boys that were stubborn – but in a good way! The story was from the book of Daniel, chapter 3 and the three boys were named Shadrach, Meshak and Abednego. They were from Jerusalem but had been taken captive by King Nebuchanezzer and were now living in exile in Babylon. The boys were firm believers in the one true God but King Nebuchanezzer was not. He had built a golden image that was 90 feet high and 9 feet wide (the clubbers learned that this was about the width of the stage at the Cove and the height of 15 Mr. John’s standing on top of each other?!). The king had declared that anyone who did not bow down to his golden image would be thrown into the blazing furnace and die! Shadrach, Meshak and Abednego declared that they were believers in the one, true God and therefore, would NOT bow down to the golden image. King Nebuchanezzer was furious and, when they refused a second time, he threw them into the furnace. A few minutes later, he noticed that there were FOUR men walking around in the furnace?! He demanded that the boys come out right away. At that moment, he knew that the God of Shadrach, Meshak and Abednego was real and that an angel of the Lord had come to save them! Shadrach, Meshak and Abednego were stubborn in their belief to only worship the one, true God and God honored and protected them for that.

We talked about what it might look like for us to stand up for God today? Some ideas were: being obedient, believing in God even when our friends don’t, standing up for others.

At the end of the night, TEAM GREEN was declared the color winner of the week! They got to come on stage and do the victory dance!!

Next week is BARF Night! No, this is not an occasion where all our clubbers get sick at the same time?! :) It stands for Bring A Real Friend. We told the clubbers to come up with a list of friends that they want to invite (since inevitably some won’t be able to come) and start asking now! We can’t wait to have the Cove overflowing with clubbers and friends!

Enjoy the pics below – see you next week!
