Search Committee Outline & Elder Board Commitment

Qualifications of Pastoral Search Committee (PSC) Members:

  • Be a church member in good standing
  • Commit to a 6-18 month process
  • Maintain strict confidentiality throughout the search

4 – 6 Weeks to select the Pastoral Search Committee

  • Church Leaders will meet with Pat Stark, the Evangelical Covenant Committee (ECC) Regional Superintendent, to discuss a healthy transition period.
  • The recommended committee members will be representatives of the congregation, with 5 – 9 members, including the Elder Board Chair.
  • Once recommended, the PSC is to be elected by a congregational business meeting.
  • PSC to organize and define committee roles.

Upon Completion of the above, PSC to Prepare the Pastoral Search

  • Complete search training provided by the ECC Superintendent.
  • PSC: Reflect on who we are as a church and where God is leading us/re-envision and reconfirm.
  • ECC will provide surveys to the PSC to gather information from the congregation; the PSC will ensure everyone in the congregation has an opportunity to share input as we discern the qualities we seek in our next Lead Pastor.
  • Complete Church Profile with ECC Staff
  • Begin the search and get the word out, seeking candidates.

Elder Board Commitment

As an Elder Board, in partnership with the ECC Denomination, we are prayerfully seeking God’s guidance and leaving room for the Holy Spirit to lead as we find our next Lead Pastor. The denomination provides support, resources, and experience, so we will not be navigating this transition alone.

  • Transparency Through Communication – Announcements, this week’s Town Hall, Elder Board email for questions/comments, commitment to update on progress quarterly or as key decisions are made.
  • Transitional Pastor – With help from the denomination, define and identify a Pastor during the Transition. A seasoned Pastor with experience in transition will bring stability, leadership, and congregational guidance as we take our next steps.  DONE!
  • Longer Term Planning – We will continue working through planning and the recruiting committee with congregational involvement and explore all opportunities God puts in our hearts.
