Over the mountains and through the woods . . .

Seven team members from Canyon Springs Church did not head to Grandma’s house but rather chose to face a challenge bigger than a wolf.

The immensity of modern day slaver is overwhelming.  Slavery exists on every continent, in almost every country.  It comes in many forms, including trafficking, child marriage, debt bondage and forced labor.  The average age of a modern day slave is 12 years old.  Modern day slaves live in constant fear—fear of those who hold power over them and fear of what the next day holds.   They struggle to have freedom and hope.

In order to join the fight against Human Trafficking these 7 team members joined over 40 other women to participate in The Freedom Challenge, Mount Hood Hike.

The Challenge:  Individually raise $5000 to support the work of The Freedom Challenge and Hike Mount Hood in Oregon July 8-13, 2019.   Our team raised over $36,000—contributing to the total $170,000 raised by the event.  Not only did we hike 30+ miles over 3 days, we also learned about “boots on the ground” that our funds were supporting.

Freedom Challenge Programs that . . .

  • Provide education for children whose moms are involved in trafficking, thus making them vulnerable  to the same path.  Education provides other options and a chance for hope.
  • Provide medical attention to these women who are so often shunned and not given those resources.
  • Support a safe house out in the Colorado wilderness that brings healing through therapy and wilderness experiences.

What could have been a week of despair was truly a week of hope as we learned how The Freedom Challenge is sponsoring so many places that are giving hope and healing to those we are hiking and fighting for.

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you.  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8
