We’re excited to recognize and thank Rob Sobie as September’s Volunteer Spotlight! He has been a vital part of our church community and has helped out in a lot of wonderful ways. Read more about how God has worked through Rob at Canyon Springs Church.
What Ministry / Group do you Volunteer With?
Set up/Tear down Ministry (or anywhere I find a way to help).
When did you start coming to Canyon Springs?
What made you decide to Volunteer?
The need was clear and having been blessed with the things that could make a difference and could be put to use, it was an easy decision.
What is your favorite part about Volunteering?
Knowing that I could make a subtle difference by doing something that I enjoy doing.
Do you volunteer with other organizations?
Yes. Mission work in Guatemala, Haiti and Mexico, local high school events, college and career ministries.
Rob was blessed to be a part of a team that moved this little girl, Rosa, and others living in a trash dump (literally) to a small adopted village (Zacapa). Rob shared that Rosa yearned for all the education she could get both at school and church. Here the two stand in the newly constructed church he and his team recently built!
Where were you born & raised?
Born and raised in a working class family of 11 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
What brought you to San Diego?
Work initially brought my wife Jill and I here in 1995, and we have moved across the country four additional times for work.
What is your job/profession?
As the President and CEO of a healthcare technology company outside of Detroit.
I’ve been married to my beautiful bride for 29 years, a woman I pointed out 6 months before being introduced to her declaring that she was the woman I was going to marry. We have two sons, one a 19 year old sophomore at Michigan State University and a 15 year old sophomore at Scripps Ranch High School.
Stuff & Random Tidbits
What is your favorite food / restaurant in San Diego?
Clearly a food connoisseur, The Chop House, Toronto, Canada
What is one interesting fact about you?
I was the only one of the 11 to go to college.
What one word or phrase describes you?
It isn’t easy to make out – but YES, that’s a bird on Rob’s head! Rob shared that this bird would sit on his head every time he visited the in-laws! It would stay there throughout the visit!
We are proud and blessed to be part of the Canyon Springs family and always appreciative of the amazing family we have here!
